Chaos Springs Seminars and Workshops 2011
Chaos Springs is a mixed cropping farm running animal, fruit and vegetable production systems. In addition we produce high quality compost, and soil management systems for sound biological agriculture. Each year we hold a series of seminars and workshops at our farm and in conjunction with the Katikati Resource Centre. Below is the schedule of events for this year. Growing your own Food September 13 2011
This four hour workshop presented at Chaos Springs Farm near Waihi will cover planning your family garden, soil preparation, seeding and transplanting, understanding crop rotations and companion planting.

The Soil Foodweb & Compost Tea Making October 11 2011
This four hour workshop will give you an understanding of the soil organisms and how they work together to create a high functioning soil. Course will include individual organism function, nutrient cycling, interpreting soil tests and best management practices. Course will include a practical session on compost tea making, including recipes, monitoring, quality assessment and applications.

The Soil Foodweb Microscope Course October 12 2011
This is a practical workshop to give participants the skills to do qualitative assessments of composts, compost teas and soils. The course will include identification of organism groups, bacteria, fungi, protozoa and nematodes.

Worm Farming and Compost Making November 8 2011
Worm farming and compost making are the most fundamental of all agricultural management techniques. Although the principles behind composting systems are easy to understand, good management is essential to produce high quality vermicast and compost. This course will cover the basics of setting up worm farming and composting systems, their management, recipes and the use of the final products.

Making, Using and Understanding Plant Extracts January 24, 2012
This course is designed to give you a working understanding of the different species of plants on your farm and in your garden. We will cover plant identification, plant interpretation, mineral and biological implications, impact of different plants and making and using plant extracts.
